WATCH: Catriona Gray dazzles as 80s screen mermaid on birthday shoot
Catriona Gray channeled the vibes of the 1980s ‘screen mermaid’ as she paid tribute to various Filipino artists and performers in a photoshoot for her 28th birthday.
The Miss Universe 2018 defending champion looked stunning in an embellished silver couture gown and black and white ensemble by Neric Beltran, as well as a magenta silk dress by Al Rey Rosano, as featured on her Instagram page on Thursday, January 6. The portraits were taken by photographer Andrea Beldua at the Manila Metropolitan Theater.
Each look is a tribute to the Filipino artists who graced the theater stage. Gray’s “screen mermaid” outfit, in particular, was a nod to the movie “Bituing Walang Ningning”.
âThe Screen Mermaid. In the later years of the Met, it hosted several awards shows for television and movies. This look echoes the ’80s red carpet glamor reinterpreted as a nod to the movie'[Bituing] Walang Ningning ‘with her final scene filmed at the Metropolitan Theater, âshe said.
Gray’s birthday photo shoot took place in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, of which she has been the ambassador for nearly three years. In addition to being a “screen queen”, she was also able to dress up as a “carnival queen” and a ballet dancer.
Gray chose to celebrate his birthday quietly with her boyfriend, actor Sam Milby. She then thanked those who welcomed her on her special day through her Instagram page yesterday, January 7.
âThanks everyone for the birthday love,â she addressed the fans. “It was a quiet little celebration due to the situation here in the Philippines, but all the messages and the love made my day even more special.” /ra
