Newport Business Club hears about network leadership

Leadership in an increasingly interconnected world is the subject of the City of Newport Business Club’s final networking event of its 2022 season.

Network leadership experts Mike Peckham and Dr James Whitehead will be guest speakers at the event at the Coldra Court Hotel on Thursday 22nd September.

Mike and James run Chepstow-based PSA Training & Consulting, whose clients include Virgin Money, Pobl and the National Trust.

They work with the private, public and third sectors to identify “network leaders” – people who get things done through their ability to understand how networks of people connect in the field and how to bring people together in the good constellation of efforts.

Mike Peckham is a long-time business and non-executive director, executive and team coach. He describes his work as being able to have “the right conversation in the room at the right time”. He has provided specialist consultancy and advice to a range of blue chip clients including De Beers Diamonds, Starbucks, BSB Sky and EDF.

He is a visiting scholar at the Business School of the University of South Wales. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute and has lectured at the MoD’s Defense Academy in Shrivenham.

Dr James Whitehead has been an army officer and business consultant and is now a lecturer in strategic management at Cardiff Metropolitan University. His teaching focuses on strategy, creativity and leadership/management development. His main research interest is leadership, particularly from the perspective of leaders’ biographies and their unique leadership experience.

Mike and James are co-authors of the book Network Leadership: Navigating and Shaping Our Interconnected World.

City of Newport Business Club President Professor Jonathan Deacon said:

“I’ve been aware for some time of the work that Mike and James are doing and it’s fascinating.”

“I’m sure they will provide a really interesting and thought-provoking insight into how leadership has changed in the 21st century.”

The City of Newport Business Club event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the event, which includes a two-course meal, are priced at £20 and can be booked HERE
