Kelsey Cook-5 Things You Need To Know About Spokane Fav

Spokane is proud when someone from the region does well, just like sports fans feel pride when their team is doing well. In a way, their success is our success. And our shared fandom connects us.

This weekend, Spokane’s pride is directed at Kelsey Cook, a local comedian whose winning sense of humor has her clubs and theaters headlining across the country, appearing in her own Epix comedy special and directing every stand-up’s dream since the days of Johnny Carson: starring on the Tonight Show.

It must be weird coming home to your parents, teachers, neighbors and former classmates – and telling sometimes dark, sometimes racy, sometimes very dirty jokes in front of them. Comedian Nikki Glazer said she doesn’t really enjoy her hometown shows because of this. It’s easier to be the most outgoing and wild version of yourself when no one is watching.

On the other hand, as I said at the beginning, no one is more excited to see you than your hometown audience. And if you’ve never seen Kelsey Cook live in Spokane, you have the opportunity to do so this weekend. You can be there and see for yourself how busy the audience is to return the love and laughter to the stage, where their local hero tells his best jokes. There’s just a different energy to these homecoming shows than you get from other comedians on tour.

Kelsey Cook performs at Spokane Comedy Club tonight and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. (doors) and 9:30 p.m. (doors).
