Crash on I-94 near I-75 involved semi-stolen airport SUV

DETROIT (WXYZ) – Two people were injured after an accident in Detroit on I-94 eastbound near I-75 involving a semi-truck and a stolen SUV that belongs to the Detroit Metro Airport on Monday.

Michigan State Police said shortly before 4 p.m. a car was driving recklessly and then caught fire.

When authorities arrived, they said a Dodge SUV and a semi-trailer were blocking the left and center lanes. The SUV was on fire.

An officer and a paramedic stopped at the scene and removed the driver and passenger from the SUV. They were both taken to hospital by the Detroit Emergency Medical Services.

The soldiers later learned that the SUV had been stolen at the Detroit Metro Airport. Airport police told soldiers four other vehicles were stolen at the airport in what is believed to be a related incident.

While transporting the driver and passenger to hospital, EMS staff said several other keys fell out of the driver’s pocket.

The driver sustained a cut to his forehead. The passenger sustained an open broken leg and burns.

The semiconductor was not injured.

The MSP said airport police will take over the stolen car investigation. Suspects and evidence will be turned over to airport police.
